Dancing for Talent Show
Creativity, Active, and Service
The talent show (this year and last year and also next year) has probably made the biggest impact of my high school career. Prior to this stint, I had little friends at school, only keeping in touch with old middle school friends that either didn't have the same classes as me or went to Coronado (I went to Irons Middle School). Even then, none of my middle school friends were really legitimately close to me. I had my secret love affair with Korean pop music and dramas while they liked... I don't know, Twilight or something (though it was really creepy because during 8th grade, EVERYONE had a twilight book. Even the guys. Except me.) I used to be this really really quiet kid (not that I'm loud now or anything.) but I never talked before. Ever. Unless if I had to communicate with the teacher, I just avoided talking. I hated my Singaporean accent and I didn't really want to talk either. No one would understand my amazing love for kpop and kdramas and I didn't really care. Until the talent show came about. Kimberley Abella started the whole thing, which was centered
CAS blogaround Kpop. I was surprised to even find anyone that liked Kpop. Other than Laura Liu (who I got into kpop), I didn't think the school had any other kpop lovers. However, we managed to create a group of 5 members who all loved kpop to some degree and did our stuff. It was made up of Kimberley Abella, Alissia Warden, Laura Liu, Grace Cheon, and myself. The whole experience was amazing. We did this song called Gee last year and we did Genie/Ah this year. I gained valuable friends throughout this whole experience who spazzed along with me about kpop and I found more people that liked kpop through this stint. I was expanding my horizons slowly but surely and have found my own little group of friends that I can truly call friends. Usually when people ask me about my favorite year in America, I would say that it was my sophomore year. Because it was the year when I finally found true friends :).
Because I was not in IB last year, my hours could not count for last year's talent show. However, I can count the hours this year! :D.
The hours for this stint is probably the hardest to actually count. Planning was really random, including shopping at shops for fun but mainly to find out matching outfits. Also (specifically for me) helping out with editing the music at Laura's house just because I was bored one day and the hours just flew by.
Creativity included helping with painting the boards that we had for our background because we had to quickly do everything.
Each dance practice we had lasted 6+ hours and we would also practice every other day during lunch. As the time drew closer, we started going out to the closest gymnastic area with a dance room to practice for an hour or 2.
